Fort Worth has always been a city that knows how to tell a story. But when it comes to hip-hop, most artists stick to the same script—guns, drugs, street life. Turo Rose isn’t having it.
The 817 native is carving out something different with what he calls “chill emo rap,” and honestly, it’s refreshing. While other artists chase clout with aggressive beats and tough-guy personas, Turo’s focusing on the stuff that actually matters—helping people work through their feelings and maybe having a good time while they’re at it. “I wanted my music to be different and have a new take,” he explains. “Instead of rapping about guns, drugs, and violence, I wanted to be on a more personal level with my audience.”
That personal approach didn’t happen overnight though. Turo’s path to music wasn’t exactly conventional. Three years ago, he hit what felt like rock bottom—lost everything he’d built and was seriously questioning his next move. That’s when music stopped being just a hobby. “I was weighing my options in life and I already had a hobby with practicing my vocals and creating beats,” he remembers. “After I saw some of my songs were getting high streams compared to other friends of mine that made music, it boosted my confidence up a little bit.”
That confidence led to tracks like “Diamonds N Pearls“—a 2:35 standout that dropped in 2023 and quickly became a fan favorite. There’s also “Message 2 You,” which tells the story of his first breakup after a seven-year relationship. “It was my first time being single since high school,” he says about the track that served as his farewell to that chapter. His catalog also includes tracks like “Cherry Blossom,” “Sunset Kisses,” and “Waiting On You”—titles that already hint at the more introspective direction he’s taking.
But don’t mistake introspective for boring. Turo knows how to craft something that hits emotionally without putting you to sleep. What sets him apart isn’t just his sound—it’s his approach. He’s not trying to be the biggest name in the game overnight. He’s focused on connecting with people who need to hear what he’s saying. “I hope they get the emotions from my music and that the vibes help soothe their own negative thoughts,” he says about what he wants listeners to take away.
While Turo’s staying independent for now (though he’s open to working with other Texas artists), he’s got big plans brewing. His upcoming album “Demons” is set to drop in December 2025, and it’s going to show a different side of his artistry. “My newest album will have a more party style, sexual, fun vibe to contrast my older music telling more of a sad feeling,” he explains. The title track “Demons” is his personal favorite and the reason behind the album’s name. If you’re in the Dallas area, you can catch him performing live in November.
For anyone new to Turo’s music, he recommends starting with “Diamonds N Pearls”— (as mentioned previously) the track that really put him on people’s radar. It’s the perfect introduction to what he’s building: authenticity without the aggression, emotion without the ego. He’s not trying to change the world overnight, but he’s definitely changing it one song at a time. “If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?” It’s more than just his motto—it’s the foundation of everything he’s building in Fort Worth and beyond.
