In a world where resistance to antibiotics is becoming a very serious an increasing threat to healthcare, ViaDerma stands out as a leader in the development of innovative, powerful, and effective solutions for treating infectious skin diseases and wound care far more effectively than other products currently available on the market.
HAIs (healthcare-acquired infections) are a very big problem for the healthcare industry. According to the CDC, at any given time in the United States, there are nearly 1 in 30 inpatients that have acquired an infection related to hospital care. Just in American hospitals alone, HAIs account for an estimated 1.7 million infections and about 99,000 deaths associated with these infections every year. The unfortunate thing is that HAIs are a significant cause of illness and death, while often causing additional emotional, financial, and medical consequences too.
ViaDerma has a very big focus will on helping hospitals, surgery centers, and nursing homes drastically reduce (if not eliminate) common HAIs like MRSA & staph infections caused by HAIs. With their patent-pending dual carrier transdermal delivery technology, ViaDerma is working hard to revolutionize the way the healthcare industry can treat various skin conditions, infections, and wounds.
In this exclusive interview, we chat with ViaDerma’s founder & CEO, Dr. Christopher Otiko, about the origins of the company, the groundbreaking technology behind their products, and their plans for global expansion as they continue to lead the charge in combating some of the world’s most dangerous pathogens.
Interview with ViaDerma’s founder & CEO, Dr. Christopher Otiko
How did you get into medicine?
Seems like ages ago, but I got my BS in Biochemistry at Ilorin University in Ilorin, Nigeria. After that, I went on to get my master’s degree in Biochemistry at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater OK. Then, I went on to attend what was then called the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, CA where I obtained my Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree.
Why did you start up ViaDerma?
I just really wanted to start a company that could produce medication that would save a lot of lives. Not too long after and having a background in podiatry, Vitastem was created in order to treat diabetic foot wounds and prevent amputations. And, to date, Vitastem has been used to save countless amputations due to diabetic wounds.
Dr Otiko, tell us more about your background?
I was born in Nigeria, but I left there when I was 3 years-old and then raised in London, England. I lived in London until I was 14, and then we moved back to Nigeria where I lived for 8 more years. I then moved to the US when I was 22 to go to graduate school to do my best to live “The American Dream” too. It’s been quite the ride since. Now, I work and reside in Los Angeles with family.
Why is ViaDerma’s transdermal tech so powerful compared to other products?
ViaDerma’s patent-pending, specialized combination of ingredients has pretty much hacked the delivery formula that enables medicine to be transported at 10x the strength and depth of other products in the marketplace today. This can be seen particularly well with the use of our lead product Vitastem Ultra (FDA-registered topical antibiotic).
Our proprietary formula stimulates the cell wall in such a way that it is up to 10x more permeable than normal. This allows for substantially more medicine to enter the cell, which then overwhelms and kills the bacteria so quickly that it does not have enough time to adapt and develop any resistance. This highly concentrated and rapid delivery of medicine to the site of treatment is why patients often see results in 24 hours versus 5 to 7 days when using competing products to treat the same condition(s).
What are a few major differentiators you have?
Pretty much all known antibiotics other than Vitastem Ultra primarily use what’s called a chemical “mechanism of kill” only, whereby the antibiotic will attempt to kill the bacteria slowly by applying it topically or absorbing it orally over a period of time as it is taken as prescribed. While this method can be somewhat effective, it just takes much longer. Unfortunately, this creates a major issue, since this method also allows for bacteria to do what bacteria will do: evolve & develop resistance to the medicine.
That’s where our method is different. For instance, Vitastem uses both a chemical and a physical mechanism to kill and fight pathogens. The physical mechanism of kill is a key feature of Vitastem’s incredible strength.
In addition to just treating a skin condition, Vitastem is the only antibiotic that contains both vitamin D3 and vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Vitastem infuses the damaged skin cells with these vitamins which allows the patient’s skin to repair and rejuvenate.
Also, the proprietary technology behind Vitastem Ultra empowers it to kill all known bacteria it has ever been tested against, including MRSA (flesh-eating bacteria) and Staph Infection too.
We can say with confidence that we have the world’s strongest topical delivery system for treating wounds & infectious skin diseases.
How safe are the ingredients & formulas used in your products?
Safe for all age groups, including children. Vitastem falls under a “CLASS I MEDICAL PRODUCT” which means that it is among the safest categories of medical products available. Our current products Vitastem & Vitastem Ultra are already FDA-Registered, and our new hair regrowth product, Nupelo, is in the process of getting FDA-Registered too, as recently mentioned in the news.
Revolutionizing Wound Care Treatments for Healthcare
ViaDerma’s advanced dual carrier transdermal delivery technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we treat infectious skin diseases and wound care. With their innovative approach, the company has developed some of the world’s strongest and most effective topical antibiotics, notably their flagship product Vitastem Ultra. Dr. Otiko’s passion for saving lives and his extensive background in medicine have played an instrumental role in the development of these life-changing products.
Throughout the interview, Dr. Otiko highlighted the unique advantages of ViaDerma’s transdermal technology, including its ability to deliver medicine at 10x the strength and depth of other products, its dual chemical and physical mechanisms to kill and fight pathogens, and the infusion of vitamins D3 and C for helping to repair & rejuvenate one’s skin. As a testament to its safety and effectiveness, Vitastem Ultra is a Class-1 Medical Product (in the safest of all medical categories), has been used to save countless amputations due to diabetic wounds, is currently FDA-Registered and available for over the counter (OTC) use.
